Panellists:

Kim Cornish

Professor Kim Cornish is the inaugural Director of the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health and Head of the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University. Professor Cornish leads the Monash THRIVE initiative to develop evidence-based, digital toolkits to strengthen mental health and wellbeing in university students and staff. 

At our symposium, Professor Cornish will be presenting findings from the THRIVE student surveys which began in April 2020 and have so far tracked student cohorts across 7 timepoints focusing on their cognitive and mental health, coping strategies across multiple lockdowns, and managing transitions and learning expectations from being on-campus to on-line and then to a hybrid model.  


Kathryn Sutherland

Dr Kathryn Sutherland is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Academic Development at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. She is an award-winning teacher and researcher who loves classroom teaching, having taught in subjects such as English literature, writing, work-integrated learning, and higher education across her academic career. Her research and practice has three main areas of focus: academic working lives; holistic academic development; and working in partnership with students to improve teaching and learning. Kathryn is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, chair of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management and was a co-editor of the International Journal for Academic Development for ten years.

At our symposium, Associate Professor Sutherland will be presenting on the 4 Cs of Effective Classroom Teaching.


Nicole Sugden

Dr Nicole Sugden is a Lecturer in our very own School of Psychology at Charles Sturt and was recently awarded a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning as part of the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) program, recognising Nicole as one of Australia’s exceptional university teachers.

At our symposium, Dr Sugden will be sharing some of the innovative strategies she developed to assist students engage with challenging concepts.


Dan Winson

Dan Winson is the founder and CEO of Zetifi, a wireless networking company based in Wagga Wagga employing 15 people, with investments from Cornell University, Telstra, and GRDC, that is developing off-grid optimised wireless network devices and systems to solve connectivity problems for people in rural and remote areas.

At our symposium Dan will be presenting on ‘Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship during the Covid-19 Pandemic’, focusing on the accelerated pace of change driven by Covid-19 and how it is impacting the role of technology in business and in education.

Dan also assists with our IT networking projects subjects and is a Charles Sturt alumni.
